Balkan

The Balkan region includes several countries that belonged to the former Yugoslavia, like Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Montenegro. These countries are very popular holiday destinations and have surprisingly beautiful landscapes.

In September 2021, while exploring Istria, I encountered another waterfall (Zarecki)). What I anticipated to be a grand spectacle of cascading water spanning meters in width turned out to be a modest trickle gently meandering over the edge. The contrast between my expectations and the reality of only small quantities of water delicately making their way down the rock face was striking.
This photo shows a majestic waterfall hidden in a lush, green landscape in Bosnia i Herzegovina. The image evokes a sense of peaceful isolation and highlights the pristine beauty of nature while it can be teeming with tourists there. The photo a great example of the use of long shutter speed, resulting in the soft, almost silky effect of the falling water. The use of vertical and diagonal lines creates a dynamic but balanced image. The lighting is soft and diffuse, creating a dreamy effect and showing off the texture of the water and plants well. The colours are harmonious and varied, adding depth to the picture.
The picture shows a waterfall flowing from a rocky wall into a peaceful water feature. The surroundings are rich in greenery, with moss and ferns covering the rocks, giving the scene a vibrant and natural look. The water appears almost silky due to the long shutter speed, contributing to a calm and serene atmosphere.

Artistically, the photo highlights the harmony between the powerful movement of the water and the quiet, almost static presence of the vegetation. The soft lighting and saturated colours create a dreamy, ethereal quality that invites the viewer to linger longer and immerse themselves in the serenity of nature.
This photo of the Kravica waterfalls in Bosnia shows a beautiful combination of strength and peace, characterised by the powerful water quietly crashing into a calm pool. The greenery surrounding the falls contributes to a sense of fertility and vitality. The light and composition enhance the natural beauty of the location. The vertical lines of the falling water contrast with the horizontal lines of the waterhole and surrounding soil. The natural curves of the vegetation and rocks add softness to the composition. There is a harmonious balance between the elements of water, earth and sky. The lighting is soft due to the late daylight, which enriches the colours of the vegetation and gives the water a sparkling quality.
